5 ways to get more fruit in your diet
1. Have a fruit bowl where you can see it
Yes gazillions of research money has proven the obvious – if you see fruit, you’re more likely to eat it. A study showed you’ll eat even more if it’s in a clear bowl.
2. Buy fruit fresh from a market where you can taste it
Get to know the people who grow or sell your food. Often they’ll let you taste it. Getting hooked on the flavour is a great motivator to eat more fruit.
3. Make a fruit platter for dessert
Are you more likely to eat an apple cut in wedges, an orange that’s peeled and a bite sized fruity morsel presented to you on a pretty plate? I know I am. I love putting out a platter of fresh and dried fruit, nuts and a little dark chocolate for guests to graze on instead of a stodgy pudding.
4. Cook winter fruits
A rhubarb compote spiked with rose water, stewed apples with cinnamon, poached pears…warm, sweet and delicious. Need I say more?
5. Add frozen berries for some winter variety
Most berries are high in antioxidants. My supermarket stocks organic blueberries. A lovely treat on my morning porridge.
