Finding joy: November 2021 update
How are you?
I’m slowly emerging as the restrictions ease and adjusting once more to the latest version of ‘normal’.
Through those long months limited to a mere 5km from home, I craved the sea and bush. Over recent weeks I’ve been on some urban bushwalks, ridden 4 ferries, dipped my feet in the sea and fallen back in love with Sydney. Spring is incredibly beautiful in this part of the world.
A heads up, my last session for the year is Wednesday 15th December. The clinic is reopening in 2022 on Tuesday 11th January. All sessions remain online until further notice.
Finding joy
Post-lockdown life hasn’t been quite the shebang I expected. Though happier to be able to roam further from home, some of the things that used to bring me pleasure are now tinged with anxiety when I’m in crowded places. So, I’ve re-evaluated what is bringing me joy and set about reclaiming it.
If your re-entry is a little rocky (or just curious about what gives me pleasure), read more on finding joy. There are also some handy resources emotionally if you’re struggling after lockdown.
Herbal medicine week
Speaking of joy, recently it was Herbal Medicine Week. To celebrate I visited the Sydney Botanical Gardens and spotted numerous glorious herbal specimens. I also scoured my neighbourhood to find as many healing plants in all the nooks and crannies and made a short video for my professional association about my love of these weeds
I also recorded a third video with my friend and mentor Dr Sue Evans. We talk about some innovative ways UK herbalists are sharing their knowledge through some inventive community programs.
Somehow I’ve now wracked up 93 videos on my YouTube channel, including my health Q&A series, lockdown 2020 daily wellbeing, hotel quarantine and mentoring playlists. Other than my chats with Sue, there are interviews with Dr Airdre Grant and Anna Hearn. If you have any suggestions about who you’d like my next interview to be with, drop me a email.
Recipe
Who says tacos are just for dinner? I love wrapping all sorts of savoury fillings in corn tortillas. Refried beans, fried cauliflower or tofu with a tangy homemade salsa and guacamole is a summer standby. But what about breakfast? This eggy brekkie is gluten-free (with an optional nod to Mexico). Want to try my new favourite brunch tacos?
The longest year is coming to a close!
With just a few weeks until Christmas, life continues to crank up. Considering the year (or two) we’ve had, it’s even more important than usual to take care of your nervous system. If you’re struggling to find the stamina required to get through the season, or you’re concerned about how your immune system will cope, please book an online naturopathic consultation.
Kia kaha/stay strong,
Gill
