June 2021 update
How are you going?
It’s hard to imagine it’s been 15 months since the first Australian states went into lockdown. Even harder for anyone outside of Victoria to comprehend the emotional and financial impact of enduring their fourth one. If this has been traumatic or you’d like some extra support for mind, body or spirit, I’m here for you.
When did you last check your blood pressure?
With the rise of telehealth, it’s not so easy to perform hands-on observations. Even during an in-person consultation with your doctor or naturopath, this simple but potentially lifesaving test sometimes falls through the cracks. So, when did you last have your blood pressure taken?
I’m at an age where an increasing number of friends have developed high blood pressure. This becomes more common once you hit your 50s. But this isn’t the only time in life when you may be at a greater risk of having hypertension. Do you know the danger periods? There are many causes of this condition but sometimes lifestyle tweaks can make a huge difference. Learn more about how small changes may future proof healthy blood pressure.
Winter: love it or hate it?
Compared to other places I’ve lived, Sydney winters are mercifully brief. I relish these chillier days to make soup, wear Ugg boots and snuggle down in bed earlier at night. But I remember the novelty quickly wore off during my time in Wellington last year! If you’re not loving the cold weather, feeling blue or want to know how to get your hygge on, explore my winter guide packed full of immune support, cosy time and warming soups.
All things citrus
The aroma of citrus being peeled makes always fills me with joy. With an abundance of mandarins and lemons now, I’ve been making a few seasonal goodies.
Mandarin peel infused tamari is a simple treat that’s easy to prepare. Likewise a jar of preserved lemons can be thrown together in minutes or these delicious sliced lemon preserve.
Slices of almost any type of citrus makes a great fruit tea. Other than the classic combo of lemon, ginger and honey, I love brewing orange with ‘mulled wine’ spices like cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and a couple of cloves.
As always, take care of yourself and others. If you would like a boost to get through winter, simply book your initial or follow up consultation online.
