June update
Happy solstice
Apologies for the slight delay in this month’s update. I’m back at work, after a trip to South America. On returning home from holidays I usually undergo a process of ‘digesting’. In most cases, fortunately, it’s not my actual digestive system in need of remedying – rather a psychological process of synthesising all the experiences that have occurred while away.
With increasing pressure on the time we take away from work, there’s a tendency to cram as many experiences into a short time. This has been true for my three week, four country, whistle-stop tour of South America. The journey included ten plane flights, three trains, a variety of boat excursions, innumerable bus trips and a memorable helicopter flight. I travelled across a continent, touched two oceans and rose to an altitude of over 4,000 metres.
It was a holiday of a lifetime, though on return I yearn a little for the days of slow travel, a time before Wi-Fi, bordered by long boat journeys. On my second to last night, I slipped away to watch the sunset over Lake Titicaca. While it had been a hot day, the nights are freezing in the Peruvian highlands. I stood in the frigid air and drunk in the coming night, totally rooted in the moment. Practicing the STOP mindfulness technique helped me slow down and be fully conscious. I hope I never forget the joy I felt from being truly present in one of the most amazing places in the world.
I hope the change in season is treating you well. If your body is in need of some help to get you through the demands of winter (or a frantic summer), a Wellbeing Plan could be the perfect remedy. You can book your consultation online at any time.
In good health,
Gill
