In season – March
There’s so much great produce in season in Australasia in March.
Don’t miss making the most of fruits and vegetables currently at their best including apples, Asian greens, bananas, beans, broccoli, capsicum, cucumber, eggplant, figs, grapes, guava, kiwi, lettuce, limes, mangosteens, oranges, pawpaw, passionfruit, pears, potatoes, pumpkins, sweetcorn, tomatoes and zucchini.
What to cook?
When vegetables are so fresh and plentiful, you don’t need to be particularly creative to make them taste good on the plate.
Try barbecued sweetcorn (just throw it on husk and all), green beans dressed with a drizzle of roasted sesame oil or gomashio, or whip up some gado gado to highlight these gorgeous veggies.
It’s also an ideal time to make eggplant in a gingery tomato sauce. If you’re not fond of eggplant, it’s just as good using green beans with tofu or tempeh. But be warned, this sauce is totally addictive!
