Inspiring drinks for FebFast: round up week 2
Congratulations to the FebFasters who’ve made it through another week alcohol-free.
I’ve continued tweeting a suggestion at knock off time each weekday. Most of this week’s drinks have a herbal edge. Remember the best tasting herbs are grown organically and freshly picked. When buying dried herbs look for a vibrant colour and fragrance. If possible choose herbs organically grown in the same country you live in.
Week 2 round up
Monday – Brew a pot of peppermint tea from the garden. An oldie but a goodie. A calming post-work drink.
Tuesday – A special bedtime beveridge to ensure a good night’s sleep. Gently simmer 1 heaped teaspoon of chamomile flowers in 1 cup of your preferred milk (cow, soy, rice etc) for 5 minutes, strain, add a little honey. Sip before bed.
Wednesday – Chilled elderflower cordial and sparkling mineral water. This tastes better than a glass of wine, honest! (I don’t usually promote products but I’ve been asked what I buy, the link takes you to a great Tasmanian product. It really is addictive!)
Thursday – An iced tea with a difference. To make a jug or glass of iced chamomile tea take 2 parts chilled chamomile tea (brew a pot using 1 teaspoon of herb for each cup of boiling water) to 1 part apple juice. Add ice and garnish with sprig of mint.
Friday Mocktail
Fruit cup
In the early 1980’s when I first visited Melbourne, I sat on a stool at Pellegrini’s and sucked down my first ever fruit cup. Heaven!
There are no hard and fast rules in making a fruit cup – after all it’s basically fruit and juice, so have fun making your own combo. If looking for inspiration, use this recipe as a starting point.
Half fill a tall glass with strawberries, pineapple and oranges, cut into small chunks. Top with chilled fruit juice. Try some freshly juiced watermelon for a cooling summer drink. Orange juice with a dash of fresh lemon is also delicious.
If you need more inspiration, take a look at last week’s round up.
Have a good weekend,
Gill
