If you are a woman, or you have a daughter, take a couple of minutes to watch this video about the cervical cancer vaccine. Sorry, it is rather preachy but her information and statistics are verifiable*.
Although this is aimed at the US market most of the information is relevant to Australia, after all this is the country that provided the initial post market surveillance.
Over the last few months I have seen many women in their early twenties who’ve been encouraged by their family or GP to get the Gardasil vaccine while they don’t have to pay for it. Not a single woman has been told of any side-effects (other than the injection site might get a bit sore) but more importantly not a single one was aware of the deaths that have occurred from the vaccine.
Equally as perplexing is that the majority of these women have been sexually active for some time and have had unsafe sex, meaning that they may have been exposed to HPV and now seem to think that the shot can reverse it.
This is not about immunisation-bashing. This is about informed consent. Would I actively expose myself to polio if I wasn’t immunised against it? Not likely. Gardasil is a money-spinner for Merck.
Safe sex and regular screening is the best protection against cervical cancer.
* The Center for Disease Control (CDC) admits there have been 32 deaths coincidentally in young women who have recently been injected with Gardasil yet are not convinced the link is conclusive. So too our own Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), who also believe 20% of the adverse reactions like fainting are “psychogenic” rather than a physical reaction.
